Teresa Norman is the author of three commercially published books on names: A World of Baby Names, The African-American Baby Name Book, and Names through the Ages. Her interest in the area of onomastics blossomed in childhood when she began to keep lists of names. In time, she started to delve into the roots of names and the stories behind them, unearthing old cultures and taking an amazing journey through time as she learned about the social, political, cultural, and religious events that influenced each name. She parlayed that education into unique projects that met unfilled niches in the world of baby name books.

A World of Baby Names was the first commercially available baby name book to divide names into cultural groups, to show their etymologies, and to offer stories behind the names.

The African-American Baby Name Book was also the first of its kind. This book celebrates the unique naming heritage of the African-American cultural group and will serve as a reference for future generations.

Names through the Ages is the culmination of years of research into the political, social, and religious events that affected naming during various time periods of six countries: England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France, and the United States.

Teresa is featured in the History Channel documentary Family Tree. She regards herself as a “name collector” and delights in hearing the personal stories of how people were given their names. She is currently at work researching another name project.
